You’re the one that I want (you are the one I want), ooh ooh ooh, honey!! Society of Harlow is channelling the fashion and style of the iconic movie/musical, Grease! For the second look in the Pink Alise #TripleSlayFashion series, I’m adding a little twist to the classic 1950’s swing skirt!
I’m so excited to bring to you my interpretation of the iconic fashion and style of the movie Grease. For this look, I hoped to create a mash up of a 1950s classic feminine silhouette (midi swing skirt) AND modern masculine staples (sweatshirt and sneakers).
Of course the highlight of this look is the glorious Pink Alise pleated midi skirt. As shared, in the previous Secret Garden: Pink Alise post, the skirt is simply stunning because of the color and texture. The dove grey lace overlay captivates the eye as it dances on top of the vibrant aqua blue scuba fabric. I wanted to balance the color prominence of the aqua blue to the dove grey in the skirt. I love adding textures to looks. So of course, I could have paired my Pink Alise pleated skirt with any grey top or blouse, but that would be too predictable. Therefore, I paired my skirt with a basic grey sweatshirt! I love the contrast of feminine and masculine aesthetics. I finished the look with a pair of bright aqua blue sneakers.
The creative direction behind this look was inspired by one of the most iconic movie/musicals, Grease. The funny thing is that I wasn’t even born when the movie was released, nearly 38 years ago. Yet, the fashion in Grease continues to prove timeless decade after decade. In 2016, we continue to see the ruminates of Grease style and fashion from varsity/bomber jackets (Pink Ladies), cropped leather jackets (T-Birds), midi pencil skirts (Rizzo), and of course full skirts like my Pink Alise skirt!
